Spring, you have been missed

Osprey flying with a fish

The ospreys are circling around the house lately, and we’ll expect to see a pair on a piling in front of our house on the river soon. Typically a fish hawk couple show up in early to mid-March, but right now we’re just seeing solo ospreys that appear to be looking for a mate. Eventually a pair will make a nest on the platform that sits on top of the piling, and they’ll get to work raising 2-3 babies, diving for fish, and carrying the terrified, recently-minding-my-own-business fish 20 feet into a pine tree to dispatch it and bring it back to the nest for dinner.
